I was doing a google search on the phrase "Crush my frog hour by hour,"(which in itself is a scream I will tell you about later- I think its on EvilLankans website but I cant really remember where - help me Mr Evil, I want that text on my bike -) when I came upon this bit of text
The Frog and the Princess
Once upon a time, a beautiful, independent, self assured princess happened upon a frog in a pond. The frog said to the princess, "I was once a handsome prince until an evil witch put a spell on me. One kiss from you and I will turn back into a prince and then we can marry, move into the castle with my mom and you can prepare my meals, clean my clothes, bear my children and forever feel happy doing so."
That night, while the princess dined on frog legs, she kept laughing and saying, "I don't think so!"

and somehow the frogs it made me think of the local sri lankan guy scean....
Guys - dont get the impression Im a "man-hater"- far from it ,I assure you.
I just find Sri Lankan male chauvanism so FUNNNNEE.
Like when we were at the police station and the cop there told my (now ex) husband that he really didnt have the power to make me go back home with him - you should have seen the look on his FACE.
it was like "What ? You mean women arent legally our PROPERTY once you get them to sign>?SHUCKS! "
may be in Taliban land , honey...

muslim marriage in sri lanka is governed by a seperate law isn't it?
this is an excellent point I wish to make. Thousands of people out there go daily and sign a contract with no written clauses, by marking on a "dotted line". Most of them have a vague idea of what they sign into based on what people (mostly elderly female relatives-)say.
do half the people entering into this contract actually know what it covers?
what contract are we talking about? like a pre-nup?
marriage vows aren't a legally binding contract by itself. marriage is a union between a man and a woman on equal terms. my girlfriend is muslim (she doesn't want to convert me anymore) and she seems to resent this family pressure as well.
marriage shouldn't make one partner property of the other.
JM: Al is not Muslim despite the nickname.
JM you seem to know me,so why not identify yourself, buddy? You are right Im not a muslim by any defintion, but I have been endlessly fascinated by the Turkish language, music, dance and culture - and if some day I had the way I would go and live in Constantinople.I also like how the Turkish women respect their religion without being stifled by it in any way. The veil has been abolished in Turkey-Never seen the place but Ive heard that its a land of astounding vitality and colour.(But hey,I love stinky Sri Lanka too!! )to clear any confusions Aljuhara is not Turkish either...its from the Jewel of the Nile and its the nick name of a really cool sufi.
